Description

Introduced in 1953 as a premium version of the iconic Les Paul model, the Les Paul™ Custom was designed at the request of Les Paul himself, who envisioned a sleek black guitar resembling a tuxedo. In 1961, Gibson replaced the single-cutaway Les Paul Custom with a double-cutaway design, later known as the SG™ Custom. The original single-cutaway model returned in 1968, and by the 1970s, production shifted from Kalamazoo to Nashville. During this era, the Les Paul Custom evolved with refinements like a multi-piece maple top replacing the all-mahogany body and a new maple neck. These 1970s models are now among the fastest-appreciating guitars in the vintage market.
After two decades of being exclusive to Gibson Custom, Gibson proudly reintroduces the Les Paul Custom 70s to the Gibson USA lineup. This model faithfully recreates 1970s specifications, featuring a mahogany body with a three-piece maple top, accented by 5-ply top binding and 3-ply back binding. Its maple neck, shaped to a classic 70s profile with a volute, is paired with a bound ebony fretboard boasting 22 medium jumbo frets and mother-of-pearl block inlays. The bound headstock features the iconic Custom Split Diamond mother-of-pearl inlay, a design inspired by the Gibson Super 400 and synonymous with the Les Paul Custom.
The Les Paul Custom 70s is equipped with gold hardware, including an aluminum Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge, an aluminum Stop Bar tailpiece, and Grover® Rotomatic® tuners with Keystone buttons for dependable tuning stability. Meticulous details like Posi-Lok™ strap locks, a 5-ply pickguard, and era-appropriate Witch Hat control knobs complete the authentic look. The guitar’s electronics stay true to the 70s with dual Calibrated T-Type humbuckers™, each with individual volume and tone controls wired to Orange Drop® capacitors for rich, versatile sound.

Available in four stunning gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finishes—Ebony, Tobacco Burst, Wine Red, and a striking Buttercream Top—the Les Paul Custom 70s comes with a hardshell case for protection during storage and travel. The wait is over: this legendary guitar is back to elevate your performance and collection.
